Flow Arts is a relatively new set of circus skills that combines elegant artistry with meditation-in-motion. Kids are drawn to flow arts by the colorful props and short learning curve which provides positive feedback while quickly gaining new skills. Flow Arts are an excellent way to build body awareness, hand-eye coordination, improve memory skills, and develop mind-body connection. Most importantly, Flow Arts are FUN!!! This class will focus on a variety of flow arts including Poi, Juggling, Rope Dart, and Hoop, allowing students to explore each prop and see how far they can take their skills. -Poi uses two lightly weighted objects attached to rope and involves coordinated movements which create rhythmical and geometric patterns. Many poi spinners use lighted or fire lit props for added effect. -Juggling may be done using a variety of objects. Loosely filled bean bags are a great beginner prop. Juggling improves core strength, hand-eye coordination, and focus. -Rope Dart is a single rope with a lightly weighted object at the end. It is similar to Poi but provides opportunities for a different range of tricks. This prop offers beginners with quick reward as the simplest tricks are easily executed. -Hoop spinning is a modern take on the hula hoop. Rather than swinging your hips repeatedly, flow is created by spinning on arms, hands, legs, and, neck potentially passing the hoop while it is in motion.
